How RE.Think Energy collects, uses and protects personal data on this website, and your rights under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
Last updated
This policy explains what personal data RE.Think Energy ("we", "us") collects through re-thinkenergy.org, why we collect it, and the rights you have. We process personal data in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019 and its regulations.
Who is responsible for your data
RE.Think Energy, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. You can contact us about privacy at hello@re-thinkenergy.org.
What we collect
Contact form: your name, email address, organisation (optional), the type of enquiry you select and your message.
Newsletter: your email address, if you choose to subscribe.
Website analytics: aggregated, cookie-free usage data such as pages viewed, referring website, country and device type. This data does not identify you and we do not use it to build a profile of you.
We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies, and we do not sell personal data.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
We use contact form data to respond to your enquiry, on the basis of our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us, or to take steps at your request before entering into an agreement.
We use your email address to send the newsletter only with your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
We use aggregated analytics to understand which content is useful and to improve the website, on the basis of our legitimate interests.
Who we share it with
We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions: Netlify (website hosting), Sanity (content management), Resend (email delivery and newsletter lists), Cloudflare (domain name service and Turnstile spam protection on forms), Sentry (error reports when a page breaks, without names or email addresses) and Plausible Analytics (cookie-free visitor statistics).
Some of these providers store data outside Kenya. Where data is transferred outside Kenya, we rely on the safeguards required by the Data Protection Act, 2019, such as contractual protections offered by the provider.
Cookies
We use one essential cookie, re_consent, which remembers your cookie choice for 180 days. Team members who sign in to the content editor also receive sign-in cookies. Our visitor statistics (Plausible) do not use cookies.
Optional cookies are only set after you agree. They come from embedded media, such as videos or posts from YouTube or LinkedIn, and from marketing measurement if we run a campaign. Until you agree, embedded media is replaced by a button that lets you load it.
You can change your choice at any time using Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry emails for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and no longer than 24 months after our last contact unless a longer period is needed for an ongoing relationship. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to be informed about how your data is used, to access your personal data, to object to its processing, to have inaccurate data corrected, and to have false or misleading data deleted.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@re-thinkenergy.org. We will respond within the time required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) of Kenya.
Security
The website is served over HTTPS. Access to enquiries and the content editor is limited to authorised team members.
